Ezku – December 2019

As I had some time off over Christmas, I planned to head down to Cumberland Basin to further explore the concrete structures and harbour structures. As it happened, I saw on Purpleport that a Bristol-based model was looking for someone to take some portrait & fashion shots for their portfolio - so I suggested we could meet at Cumberland Basin and do some shots. So we did.Although as it turned out, it was heavily foggy that morning - and cold - but actually I thought this led to some interesting and atmospheric portraits. Ezku has a really interesting look - 6ft tall and an asymetric haircut that gave very different looks depending on which side you shot her from - and photographed really well, especially for an inexperienced model. I particularly liked the Mondrian dress she had - some of those images (especially the ones on the spiral staircase) look really 60s....

Aust 2019

As ever, I kept going back to Aust just outside Bristol - my favourite bleak location. The first visit was in February - the forecast looked promising and when I got up early (for a Sunday), it looked even better as it was a bit misty. When I got there, I saw a lovely bit of mist with the pylon and the old Severn Bridge in bright sunlight above it. However as I walked the last bit, it got foggier and foggier - to the point that I couldn't actually see much at all. These shots were taken on a variety of film cameras - I was testing some of my dad;s old Pentaxes before selling them. So we have an MX, and ME Super and a Z1 - some shot on Ilford FP4, some on Kodak Tri-X 400, all developed by me. The second visit was on a June morning, when conditions were very different - lovely bright sunshine. Most of these were...

France 2018

We stayed in Bordeaux on the way down to our holiday in France - I had a Big Birthday shortly beforehand and fancied visiting some vineyards and doing a couple of tastings. We visited Chateaux Siran in Margaux, Chasse-Spleen in Moulis-en-Medoc and Bouscaut in Pessac-Leognan. The tours were interesting, particularly the Siran nuclear bunker... Once at the gite we actually did very little (which was lovely), but I still managed to take quite a lot of photos - we had the usual good sunsets, as well as one morning with a thick fog. There will be more images from the gite in the film update I'll be posting later. On the way home, we stopped off in the Loire for a Chateau visit - Azay-le-Rideau this time. And of course there was a decent selection of meals... As we'd been to this particular gite before, we knew that there would be plenty of opportunity for photographing the stars....

Autumn on the Downs

For some reason, I particularly noticed some beautiful weather on the Downs in Bristol this autumn, to the extent that I had to get off the bus and take photos - this happened on 3 occasions, once for mist, once for fog and finally for a heavy hoar frost. It may well be that I've actually got a phone with a decent camera (LG G4), so impromptu photography is much more possible than it was - although I was prepared for the third set and took my compact camera with me. For much the same reason, I've been a lot more active on Instagram this year....
